A Message from the Conference Organising Committee Chairman
On behalf of the Centre for Engineering Leadership and Management (CELM) and the Conference Committee it is my great pleasure to invite you to attend the 2008 CELM National Conference to be held in Western Australia at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre, 10-12 September.
The Conference theme, Engineers: Driving Australia’s Future, invites speakers and attendees to explore whether engineers are or are not having a major influence on the direction Australia is heading and whether we are taking on a leadership role in this regard.
At a time when Australia’s overall economic prosperity is growing, which is particularly so in Western Australia, are we taking advantage of this by directing human and capital resources adequately and in the correct areas? What role should engineers have in this debate, and in the formulation and implementation of any policy that may arise? We are privileged to have secured some of Australia’s eminent leaders from a range of professions and backgrounds to address this important subject at our Conference.
The City of Perth has been chosen as the venue for the 2008 CELM Conference, to be held when the wildflowers in King’s Park will be in full display. We look forward to a large contingent of inter-state registrations taking advantage of visiting Perth again or for the first time and seeing the growth that has taken place in recent years.
I look forward to welcoming you to the 2008 CELM National Conference.
Bill Marmion
Conference Chairman
